Roadmap for Co-creation

Published on: 26/04/2024 Document

ACROSS employed a co-creation methodology as a guiding principle in conducting user research across pilot countries, providing a foundation for partners to develop innovative solutions supporting cross-border services. Waag's contribution to this approach is exemplified by the Co-Creation Navigator (CCN), a roadmap developed to structure co-creative processes with a suite of tools, methods, and recommended workflows, as depicted in the figure below.

The Co-Creation Navigator was collaboratively crafted with partners from Horizon 2020 projects such as BigPicnicMobility Urban Values, and Cities4People. Serving as a central platform for transparent communication, the CCN encapsulates Waag's evolving co-creation methodology, continually refined throughout our activities.

The Co-Creation Navigator categorizes tools into specific purposes:

  1. Foundation: Establishes the groundwork for the project by assembling a capable team equipped to navigate uncertainties inherent in co-creation. Forming a cohesive team with defined roles, tasks, and shared values is fundamental to the success of the co-creation process.
  2. Context: Focuses on understanding citizens' and stakeholders' needs, preferences, and habits, providing crucial insights at project initiation to frame existing challenges, needs, and opportunities.
  3. Community: Aims to forge connections within the target audience, fostering mutual understanding and trust to facilitate a positive collaborative environment.
  4. Workspace: Utilizes various methods to explore diverse perspectives and generate innovative ideas, employing media such as drawing, citizen sensing, role-playing, and discussion to develop solutions aligned with research findings.
  5. Wrap-up: Employs assessment and validation tools to evaluate feasibility, impact, and alignment with project objectives, ensuring proposed solutions meet community standards and project parameters.

When combined, these tools underpin a comprehensive co-creation approach, enhancing project development and implementation processes.
